NEWARK, N.J. - January 28, 2000 - IDT Corp. (NASDAQ: IDTC) applauds President Clinton's call in his Year 2000 State of the Union Address for the promotion of policies to help bridge the country's so-called "digital divide" by connecting all Americans to the Internet. IDT, a leading multinational telecommunications carrier, telephone company and Internet service provider, is already leading the way in making Internet access and communications more affordable to everyone. IDT will ignite a nationwide "communications revolution" in coming weeks with the launch of ZeroDinero.com, a free Internet service combined with free Internet telephone and fax.
"It's hard to get more affordable than Free !," declared Howard Jonas, IDT's Chairman and CEO. "Through ZeroDinero.com IDT will potentially make the Internet available to every home in America," added Jonas. "And with the rollout of ZeroDinero .com IDT is positioned to be one of the nation's leading Internet service providers."
"Greater access to the Internet is key to expanding opportunities for all Americans and closing the gap that exists between those with access to this new and growing median and those without," said Jim Courter, IDT's President and Vice Chairman. "President Clinton's call give every American access to the Internet is right in line with IDT 's mission of bringing this great information and communications tool to every corner of the country."
As of today, about two-thirds of all Americans have yet to go online.
"With more than half of the country still without access to the Internet five years after its emergence as a commercial technology," Courter continued, "free Internet service like IDT's ZeroDinero.com is essential to making this median available to all Americans."
Customers can go to www.zerodinero.com to pre-register for the service, and get more information about ZeroDinero.com's Free Internet service. Subscribers will be e-mailed when service is available in their area. ZeroDinero.com will begin rolling out in February 2000.
ZeroDinero.com will be advertiser supported using new and exclusive technology. This technology makes it possible for ZeroDinero.com to provide precision targeted advertising and content delivery based on the user's demographics and content affinities. This means that users receive advertising and content that likely will be of greater interest to them.
"Free and open communication of ideas and the concept of equal opportunity for all are key stones in the foundation of American society," Courter continued. "By providing free Internet service, IDT is helping keep those ideals a reality for all Americans by enabling broader access to the greatest technological innovation since Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone."
